Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand, is a country located in Southeast Asia which borders Laos and Myanmar to the north, Laos, and Cambodia to the east, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia to the south, Myanmar and the Andaman sea of India to the west. Thailand's territorial waters border Vietnam's territorial waters in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast, the Indonesian and Indian territorial waters in the Andaman sea to the southwest. The capital of the country is Bangkok. This is the largest city and center of politics, commerce, industry, and culture of Thailand. Thailand has an area of 513,000 square kilometers, making it the 50th largest country in the world. It is the 20th populous country in the world of about 67 million people. Thailand is a founding member of ASEAN and an important ally of the United States. The country is seen as a regional power in Southeast Asia and a middle-class superpower in the world.
Thailand is the most attractive tourist destination in Southeast Asia by 2013 according to the World Tourism Organization.
